Question:

Can type 2 diabetes be reversed with diet, weight loss and exercise?

Answer:

Thanks for your question.  Recent research has found that type 2 diabetes can be reversed in obese individuals that have had gastric bypass surgery.  A low carb diet has been found by Duke University researchers to reverse diabetes, and a recent small study found that a very low calorie diet (600 calories/day) was able to reverse diabetes in a few of the subjects in the study population.  Though this very low calories diet is not recommended, it does give us hope that diabetes is reversible through weight loss, healthy diet, and exercise.
