Torturous Colonoscopy

09/28/2008 02:26PM

Question:

I had a torturous colonoscopy. I bloated very badly for a month or so. Is this normal? I dread my next one in 10 years. Is there something to do to help prevent this next time? I did follow the subscribed preparation.

Answer:

It would not be normal to have symptoms after a colonoscopy for more than a couple of days. You should discuss the findings with your gastroenterologist. You may want to consider CT colonography (virtual colonoscopy) the next time you are due, but I would encourage you to get it done. It is one of the most important cancer screens available.
