Brown eggs

08/23/2008 08:01AM

Question:

Are brown eggs nutritionally better than white eggs? I am reading contradictory statements everywhere so I am confused if brown eggs are better for health than white eggs. Please advice.

Answer:

The color of the shell of a chicken egg does not make a difference in the nutritional value of the egg. White, brown and blue/green shelled chicken eggs are equally nutritious. The color of the egg is determined by the breed of chicken. Generally, white feathered hens produce white shelled eggs and brown feathered hens produce brown eggs. The Arowana breed of chicken produces the blue/green egg. Some feeds the chickens eat produce a different shade of yellow for the yolk, so the vitamin A/carotene content may differ slightly, but it can happen with any breed of chicken.
