Have a cough and throat hurts

Question:

my friend has this cough every other day and said her throat hurts and last night she wake up because she couldnt breath she said that it felt like her throat was closeing what could be going on with her

Answer:

There are several symptoms you are describing in this question. First, a cough which can be caused by many things. A chronic or persistent cough should prompt a doctor visit to discuss nasal symptoms (drainage into your throat), heartburn or reflux, voice problems or respiratory problems. Second, you mention shortness of breath. Often this can be a sign of asthma or other respiratory trouble. If cough and shortness of breath are present, you should seek medical attention, this can be a sign of infection (pneumonia), asthma, sleep apnea, vocal cord problems or other serious conditions.
