Iron in popcorn

08/13/2008 06:09PM

Question:

My light microwave popcorn box`s nutritional panel says that 3 Tbsp unpopped popcorn have 8 percent of the daily recommended amount of iron. That makes about 7.5 cups of popped corn.

But 1 cup of popped corn, it says, has no iron. Shouldn`t it be about 1 percent? Where does the iron go?

Answer:

Your iron didn't go anywhere. It just seemed to disappear as numbers are rounded to the nearest whole number. The 8% value is probably a 'rounded up' value and the 0 was probably 'rounded down'.
