Average weight for 10 year male 4`9

08/11/2008 04:59PM

Question:

How much should a male child 4`9", 10 years of age weigh?

Answer:

Body Mass Index (BMI)is a ratio of height and weight. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) growth charts, healthy BMIs for a 10-year-old boy whose height is 57 inches are from 14.2 to 19.4. The range of weight that corresponds to these BMIs is 65 to 90 pounds. So if this child weighed less than 65 pounds, he may be classified as underweight. If he weighed more than 90 pounds, he may be classified as overweight. Of course, these weight recommendations are approximations to be used as a guideline. They do not take into account the amount of muscle, bone, and fat in the body. It's important for children to achieve and maintain a healthy weight by developing daily habits of eating nutrient-dense foods and engaging in physical activity.
