Regional Anesthesia for Knee Arthroscopy

07/25/2008 01:55PM

Question:

Both femoral nerve block and sciatic block are suggested as options for meniscus tear, but it`s not clear why both are suggested. Can you explain please?

Answer:

This is because the femoral nerve supplies sensation to the anterior (front) part of the knee only. A block of the sciatic nerve is needed in addition to the femoral nerve block in order to completely anesthetize the knee.
