Where is this sudden dizziness coming from?07/21/2008 01:25AM |
I have had recent episodes of vertigo and light-headedness. I also have a pressure behind my eyes and a burning sensation on the back of my skull towards the neck--I also have been hearing my pulse in my left ear pretty regularly...What could be wrong? My bp runs around 135/85.
There are many causes of dizziness. Vertigo, or a spinning sensation, is most often associated with an inner ear abnormality. The most common causes of inner ear vertigo include:
1- a viral infection. This often will occur after a cold, and typically begins with severe vertigo that will then dissipate over time.
2- an elevation of inner ear fluid pressure. This will tend to cause vertigo, ringing in the ear or tinnitus, a pressure sensation in the ear, and possible hearing loss.
3- a condition called benign positional vertigo, where sudden changes in head position cause dizziness.
I suggest you consult an ENT physician for a full evaluation.
