Molar removal

Question:

My orthodontist wants to remove my 4 back molars to make room for my wisdom teeth, why should I have this done?

Answer:

I don't know, but the questions to ask are:

1. Is it necessary to extract the molar? If so how many?

2. What is the reason for the extraction of these teeth over premolar teeth?

3. Does he/she do the extractions? Normally an accredited University trained ( 2-3 years after dental school) orthodontist does not extract teeth.

These are questions that need answers. Make sure you know the treatment plan and your role and responsibilities in successful treatment.
