Eye and Vision Care

Best time of day for an eye exam?

07/14/2008

Question:

Is it better to have an eye exam in the morning or the afternoon? Which time of day gives more accurate results? I frequently feel that my prescriptions aren`t quite correct, but I wondered if being very tired (work + commute=14 hrs a day!) would affect my vision enough that when I have an exam while exhausted...the prescription doesn`t seem quite right.

Answer:

The best time of the day for an eye examination is dependent upon when you are most alert. If you are a morning person, then an AM appointment would provide better results. If you are scheduling an examination at the end of a 14 hour day, you may be very tired and your responses during the refraction may be difficult. Always consider the weekends for an appointment with your optometrist.

As an aside, if you have a history of prescriptions that “don’t seem quite right," have your eyes checked for ocular dryness. Ocular dryness can cause variable refractions.

Best of Luck to you.

Kind Regards.
